Petite – what does it mean in fashion and how to choose the ideal size? Clothing length vs. height
Literally translated from French, "petite" means "small" or "tiny." In the world of fashion, it refers to women under 164 cm tall, for whom standard clothing is simply... too big – not so much in width, but in length and proportions.

Why don't standard sizes work for Petite Women?
Shorter women often hear: "Take a smaller size, it will fit better." Unfortunately, that's not how it works. A smaller size is usually just a tighter size, not a better-fitting one.
The problem with standard clothing is not the size itself, but the proportions. Shorter women often struggle with clothes that – despite theoretically being the right size – simply do not harmonize with their figure. The legs are definitely too long, the sleeves cover the hands, and the waistline sits too low, often at hip height. As a result, the entire silhouette loses its natural proportions, and even the nicest clothing does not look as it should.
One of the biggest challenges shorter women face is not just suits or long trousers, but also... jumpsuits. Theoretically, they should make life easier – just one item and the outfit is ready. In practice, however, with standard cuts, it ends up with a too-long rise, an overly voluminous crotch, and a waist that sits where it shouldn't. There’s no strict rule here, because it’s not just the width, but also the length and proportions of the clothing that play a key role.
